A jump into the photonics future is happening in the City of Barcelona on the 29-30 May 2018. The Tech Tour 2018 European Photonics Venture Forum (EPVF), 4th edition, will present the best emerging and growth opportunities in the photonics sector. The event will be aptly held at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), a leading international research center with a strong focus on knowledge and technology transfer to proactively translate its newly generated knowledge into new technologies.

The European Photonics Venture Forum is traditionally supported by the EU and the European Commission projects ACTPHAST 4.0, SECPhO, as well as Photonics21, Fotónica21, and the European Centres for Outreach in Photonics (ECOP).

The Forum aims to market the photonics sector to a wider investor community and create channels to finance for high-potential photonics businesses. The event will ensure that photonics becomes a pillar of local regional development plans, mirroring the European strategy and driving more support and funding to the sector. EPVF is bringing to light corporate ventures and market opportunities, funding re-boot and EC perspectives, taking into account the specificity and complexity of the photonics sector. To raise awareness of the sector, EPVF has already created a platform for collaboration along the value chain and networking to be seen as crucial for the development of the photonics sector, as a central point of driving innovation in the upcoming decades.

Top international experts in the field, investors and corporates, such as Paul Blackborow, Co-Chairman of ENERGETIQ, a company recently acquired by Hamamatsu for $42M, Lucia Colmenero, Financial Director at Medlumics, a company that acquired €34.4M in Series B funding in March 2017, Dieter Kraft, Trumpf Venture Capital (formerly at Bosch Venture Capital), Jan Meise, AMS Technologies AG, and representatives from Arch Venture, Bullnet Capital, Capital-E, Emblem Ventures, Icos Capital, Inventure, Jolt Capital, SGECR, Ysios Capital Partners, Zaz Ventures and many more will attend the event this year.

The event will also feature an informal investors-only session on the topic of “Public – private partnering on scaling up in photonics”. The aim of this roundtable discussion is to elaborate on fostering investment in the photonics industry through the means of public-private partnership with representatives from the European Commission, European Investment Bank, and corporates including Carl Zeiss, Hamamatsu, Huawei, LG, and Sony.

The registration deadline for participants interested in attending the Tech Tour 2018 European Photonics Venture Forum is up to 29 May 2018.

Media representatives can register for EPVF 2018 free of charge up to 29 May 2018 on the event’s website or at the registration desk onsite.
