The Growth Award winner, Skyscanner, was founded in 2001 and has become a leading global travel search site providing instant online comparisons for flights, car hire and hotels. Barry Smith, co-founder and director said "We’re delighted to receive the Growth Award. We have seen record visitor numbers and fantastic growth as we move from being a flight comparison site to a true travel search site, including hotels and car hire. Barry Smith
Co-Founder, Skyscanner

         
     

Barry is Co-Founder and Director at Skyscanner, where he was responsible for all Commercial, Marketing, Business Development and Mobile activities. He continues to serve on the Board as a NXD.
Barry is also an active angel investor and adviser for a number of companies, including Mailcloud, Osper, Marco Polo Learning, MyVirginKitchen, SmartUp.io, LUX FIX, Revision App and YoYo. He provides mentorship at FoundersforGood, TechStars and Seedcamp, to name a few, and is a Board Trustee at New Entrepreneurs Foundation.
Barry is currently a Non-Executive Producer and heads the Digital Strategy of a feature length, documentary film about actor and race car enthusiast Steve McQueen. The film, ‘Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans’ is due for global, cinematic release at the end of 2015.

         
         
       

Gareth Williams,

Co-Founder, Skyscanner

         
      Gareth Williams is CEO and co-founder of Skyscanner, an idea born out of his frustration with finding cheap travel deals. Gareth's 14 years of experience as a developer for financial institutions and retail companies have helped him make Skyscanner one of the top digital travel companies in the world. Before setting up Skyscanner with Bonamy and Barry, Gareth worked as a developer for a number of businesses, including Marks and Spencer, Nations Bank, LTCB and Cantor Fitzgerald. Outside of work, Gareth mentors online start-up businesses and is a keen chess player and compulsive doodler.
         
         
       

Bonamy Grimes,

Co-Founder, Skyscanner

         
      Skyscanner co-founder Bonamy has worked across a number of areas in the business, including as Chief Analytics Officer, in product management and launching Skyscanner’s highly successful mobile apps. To this day these have been downloaded over 35 million times. Previous to this, Bon held contractor and consultant roles at Marks and Spencer and Xansa PLC. Bonamy and Gareth met on the first day at university in Manchester, and bonded over a love of music – Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays in particular. Bonamy mentors several start-up companies in the UK, and outside of work has a passion for cycling, having competed in the Etape du Tour.

Avery Wang

Co-Founder & Chief Scientist, Shazam Entertainment Ltd

         
   

 

Avery Wang has over 20 years of industry experience designing high-performance multimedia signal processing systems for the consumer market and is the principal inventor of Shazam's recognition algorithms and other key technologies. Avery holds graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Stanford University, with a PhD at CCRMA on Auditory Source Separation. He also studied Computational Neurosciences on a Fulbright scholarship to Germany. At Shazam his responsibilities include innovation and intellectual property.

Pere Valles

Mr. Valles joined Scytl in March 2004 after spending most of his professional career in the United States. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Valles was Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of GlobalNet, a NASDAQ publicly-traded telecommunications company headquartered in Chicago. Mr. Valles assisted GlobalNet in becoming one of the leading providers of Voice-over-IP in the world and was instrumental in the successful sale of the company to the Titan Corporation, a NYSE defense company. At GlobalNet, Mr. Valles was responsible for designing and executing the strategic plan that led to an increase in revenues from US$ 25 million to over US$ 100 million and brought the company to profitability. Previously, Mr. Valles had worked as Senior Manager for KPMG’s Mergers & Acquisitions group in Los Angeles and Miami providing financial and strategic consulting services to private equity groups and corporations involved in acquisitions in the United States, Latin America and Europe. During his career at KPMG, Mr. Valles actively participated in more than 20 transactions in the telecommunications and technology areas. Mr. Valles has a bachelor degree in Economics and a bachelor degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and a MBA (summa cum laude) from Indiana University.
